The Isle of Wight Youth Trust is delighted to announce the launch of Bite the Wight, an event celebrating food, drink and hospitality on the Island.

Eileen Monks OBE, Director of the Youth Trust, explained: "Bite The Wight" is about fundraising, but it's also about coming together as a community, enjoying food with friends and family, and taking pride in something that the Island does brilliantly."

The full menu for the event is still under wraps, but participating pubs and restaurants will each dedicate a "Trust Table" with all proceeds for the day going to the Youth Trust. Leading venues from across the Island have already signed up, including:

The Buddle, The Bugle (Yarmouth), Lugleys, The Pig & Whistle and The Village Inn.

Many more are expected to be announced over the coming weeks, along with details of weird, wonderful and wacky ways to share a bite to eat and support a great cause.

What is Bite the Wight?

This year, the Isle of Wight Youth Trust is proud to launch ”Bite the Wight” - a new community event for the Isle of Wight. Bite the Wight is about sharing time with friends and family and celebrating all that is best about food and drink on the Isle of Wight. We hope you will be able to be a part of it.

How Can You Get Involved?

We’re not asking much. Just for one day, Saturday, 2nd November, 2013, we’re asking all of the cafés, pubs and restaurants on the Island to set aside, one table for the Youth Trust. We’re asking each of you to give the proceeds of that one table, on that one day, to the Isle of Wight Youth Trust.

What do you get out of it?

Well, apart from anything else, the Youth Trust is a fantastic cause, which has been supporting some of our most disadvantaged children and young people on the Isle of Wight for more than 25 years. Supporting Bite the Wight is a great way for you to show your commitment to the local community and to giving a helping hand to people who really need it.

But there’s more to it than that! Bite the Wight is a celebration of food and drink on the Island and we want to encourage all of our partners and supporters to use this as an opportunity to show off what they have to offer. We will identify you as a supporter on our website and we will promote and share what you are doing on Facebook and Twitter.

We can also help to produce posters and promotional materials to help you tell your customers that you will be part of Bite the Wight.

Isn’t there something more I could do?

That’s the spirit! Of course there is. We will be holding competitions, encouraging residents to get involved at home, at school and all across the Island. Perhaps you would like to hold a special event to support the Youth Trust and help your customers enjoy a wonderful evening with you. Why not join in with a special culinary quiz night? A wine-tasting event? Or an old-fashioned “school dinners” themed fancy dress night? There’s no limit to what you can do and whatever you choose, we will share with the rest of the Island community.

We ask only two things. You must set aside the income from one table for one day for the Youth Trust. You use and promote local produce.

So what are you waiting for?

Don’t miss out. This is a fantastic day to celebrate being part of our wonderful Island. It’s a time for Islanders to get together, to celebrate all that is best about the Island and to lend a hand to those on the Island who need it most. Don’t delay. Get involved today!
